To help meet the needs of your growing family, the Center for Women's Health at The Longstreet Clinic is pleased to offer Childbirth classes and Breastfeeding classes.

Childbirth Classes

To help meet the needs of your growing family, the Center for Women’s Health at The Longstreet Clinic is pleased to offer this opportunity for new and experienced parents to prepare for the birth of their child. By attending the classes and preparing for childbirth, you will learn what to expect and how to work with the labor process. We offer a choice of either a series of four classes on Wednesday evenings or two classes on Saturdays. Both classes offer the same content and include a hospital tour.

Breastfeeding Classes

In support of the many benefits of breastfeeding for mother and baby, the Center for Women’s Health at The Longstreet Clinic offers an introduction to breastfeeding for our patients. Class size is limited so that you can practice breastfeeding techniques and ask questions freely. Specifically, you learn how to begin breastfeeding at the hospital and continue breastfeeding after you return home. Each participant receives a booklet on beginning breastfeeding and other materials.

Pre-registration is required for the childbirth and breastfeeding classes. We suggest that you complete all classes by your 36th week of pregnancy. Please submit your completed registration form via mail or leave it with one of our checkout personnel at the time of your visit. All classes are conducted at our Gainesville location. All classes are subject to change. Paticipants registered for classes will be notified if changes are made.

Art Therapy

Art Therapy: Patients and their loved ones express feelings and moods in a group setting utilizing art activities. This atmosphere of support and acceptance encourages self-expression. The group is facilitated by Randall Overdorff, LPC, LMFT, ATR-BC, on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Classes are open to people at any stage in their cancer experience: from diagnosis, through treatment, post-treatment and survivorship. All sessions take place at Longstreet Cancer Center, 705 Jesse Jewell Parkway. Classes are free, but please call ahead to register at (770) 297-5700.
Yoga

Christ Centered Yoga: Fuses biblical study with hatha yoga for a uniquely soulful experience. People of all faiths and beliefs are welcome. Classes are open to people at any stage in their cancer experience: from diagnosis, through treatment, post-treatment and survivorsip. Upcoming classes are set for the first and second Wednesdays of each month from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. in Longstreet Cancer Center's waiting room on the third floor, 705 Jesse Jewell Parkway, Gainesville. Introduction to Chemotherapy

Because patients and family members can feel overwhelmed when beginning chemotherapy, Longstreet Cancer Center is pleased to offer an Introduction to Chemotherapy class every Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and every Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. During this class, patients and family members receive useful information, which will help prepare them for treatment. The class is lead by Longstreet Cancer Center nurse practitioner Helen Rabon, FNP-C, who will also be available to answer any of your questions. Baby Care 101

Your baby is coming soon! Do you know what to do? Well, the Center for Pediatrics is here to help you by offering Baby Care 101. Baby Care 101 provides expectant and new families with essential information on all aspects of caring for your new baby including feeding, bathing, well baby visits and when to call the pediatrician. Prostate Cancer Support Group

Longstreet Cancer Center hosts a Prostate Cancer Support Group each month. The meeting is held the first Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in Longstreet Cancer Center, third floor, 705 Jesse Jewell Parkway, Gainesville. The support group is for men with newly diagnosed prostate cancer or long-term survivors of prostate cancer. Please call (770) 297-5700 if you would like more information.

Diabetes Self-Management Education

Did you know that The Longstreet Clinic’s diabetes self-management education program was awarded the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate? The ADA Education Recognition Certificate assures that the Clinic’s program meets national standards for diabetes self-management programs. You can be assured that TLC’s program is conducted by a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide participants with comprehensive information about diabetes management.
