Mulberry earns national certification to perform DOT physicals

Michael J. Mulberry, M.D., a family physician at Valley View Medical Center in Dahlonega, recently was certified by the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. He is the only physician in Lumpkin County who currently holds the certification.

The National Registry is a new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) program. All commercial drivers whose current medical certificate expires on or after May 21, 2014, must be examined by a medical professional listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.

According to FMCSA, medical examiners have to take a training course and pass a certification exam to be listed on the National Registry. Only medical examiners who have completed training and successfully passed a test on FMCSA’s physical qualification standards will be listed. Motor carriers can ensure their drivers are physically qualified to drive a commercial vehicle by checking the National Registry website.

Mulberry is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and the Georgia Academy of Family Practice.

Valley View Medical Center is located in Suite 7 at 24 Alicia Lane in Dahlonega. Contact 706-867-6505 for more information.
