The Longstreet Clinic, P.C., is pleased to announce the addition of Phillip R. Brown, M.D., F.A.C.S., to the Department of General Surgery.  Dr. Brown will see patients at TLC’s new general surgery office located in the Dahlonega Medical Mall.

Dr. Brown earned his bachelor’s degree and the University of Georgia and his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his general surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

During his surgical residency in the NASCAR hub of Charlotte, Dr. Brown treated several drivers and crew members with trauma injuries from racing. After moving to Georgia, Dr. Brown contacted Atlanta Motor Speedway and began volunteering as a course physician. He’s gearing up to serve at the AdvoCare 500 on Sunday night.

He’ll spend Labor Day weekend in the AMS care center, arriving before the garage opens Friday until the race ends late Sunday night.

“Fortunately 99 percent of incidents are minor, but we’re there in case there is something more serious,” Dr. Brown said, noting that a lot has changed about on-site medical care since Dale Earnhardt was killed in 2001. “Fortunately we haven’t had any major injuries since I’ve been there (at Atlanta Motor Speedway).”

Dr. Brown joins The Longstreet Clinic after spending more than 10 years in Thomaston, Ga., where he was a partner at Flint River Surgical Associates, LLC. A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He and his wife, Tracy, have two daughters, Savannah, 10, and Caroline, 8.

Dr. Brown has medical staff privileges at Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega. He is accepting new patients at 134 Ansely Drive, Suite 700, in Dahlonega. Please call 706-482-0215 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

“I’m looking forward to performing surgery at Chestatee Regional Hospital while being a part of a larger group practice at The Longstreet Clinic. Together we will work to improve the health of the communities we serve,” Dr. Brown said.
