ONCOLOGY SERVICES

A team of experts specifically dedicated to your treatment and wellbeing.

Oncology is the branch of medicine that studies and treats cancer. But there is more to oncology than research, data, and medicine. Because in addition to diagnosing illness, an oncologist is also concerned with providing the best total treatment possible to battle the disease through different therapies and phases, including palliative care.

That means looking at each patient as a whole and discovering what works best for them, as well as making a very difficult proposition as easy as humanly possible. To that end, the physicians and staff at Longstreet Cancer Center are here to provide excellent total care to those facing the challenges that a cancer diagnosis brings.

How Longstreet Clinic oncology path works

After cancer has been diagnosed through biopsy or surgery, you and your physician will decide upon the best course of action. There are several different types of cancer treatment available, including radiation, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and beyond. We’re committed to providing the best care possible and we do so by offering options so that you and your doctor can decide which type is right for you. Therefore, your treatment will be based upon which therapy will produce optimal results both in your treatment and overall wellbeing.

Once a treatment method is determined, the first course of action generally consists of radiation and/or chemotherapy.

Radiation therapy is a method in which high energy radiation is directed at the tumor in an effort to shrink it.

Chemotherapy is designed to kill cancer cells and can be administered orally in the form of a pill or through an intravenous (IV) drip that is delivered in cycles. By offering semi-private suites complete with recliners and personal televisions, as well as free Wi-Fi access, Longstreet Cancer Center’s state-of-the-art chemotherapy infusion suite is designed for the comfort of the patient.

Once the course of treatment is complete, you will complete follow-up appointments with your oncologist to closely monitor your health. Know that once you become a patient of one of our board-certified oncologists, it becomes their goal to provide you with the most thorough care possible. We accomplish this by keeping wait times at a minimum while also being available 24 hours a day. If you experience an emergency and the office is closed, an answering service message will direct you on how to reach the physician on-call.

Whatever your situation, we will work with you to not only return you to full health, but also ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during the journey. And, once you successfully complete treatment, we will continue to work hand-in-hand with you to keep you in full health.
