Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) or Physiatry, is a medical specialty which began in the 1930s to treat musculoskeletal and neurological problems.
After World War II and as thousands of severely disabled veterans began to return home and look for ways to lead productive lives, physiatry grew rapidly and focused its mission to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those with physical impairments or disabilities.
Dr. Holmes Marchman practices conservative management of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular clinical problems. The range of problems in which Dr. Marchman and his staff treat include:
Back and neck pain
Sports injuries
Stroke
Spinal cord injuries
Neuropathy
Traumatic brain injuries
Amputations
Dr. Marchman diagnoses problems and works closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and athletic trainers after prescribing treatment to maximize functional outcomes of patients.
Physicial Medicine & Rehabilitation utilizes traditional diagnostic tools such as X-rays, CT scans and MRI scans. Additionally, Dr. Marchman is specially trained in electrodiagnostic procedures, including electromygraphy and nerve conduction studies.
