A loop electro surgical excision procedure can be performed to remove abnormal cervical cells. An iodine solution is applied directly to the cervix to make abnormal cells visible. The procedure uses an electrified wire loop to eliminate abnormal tissues by cutting it out.LEEP is performed on women who have received abnormal pap testsand have already had a coloposcopy. Tissue removed during LEEP can be tested for cervical cancer. There are risks involved with LEEP, including
o Cervical infection
o Narrowing of cervix
It is important to have follow up pap tests to ensure all abnormal tissue has been removed and no infection has occurred.
