Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgical Procedures

Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgical Procedures

Minimally invasive gynecological surgery includes laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures. The physicians at TLC’s Center for Women’s Health are trained and experienced in both surgical techniques.

Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgery that creates small incisions using a laparoscope. This device comprises a small camera on the end, allowing physicians to view their movements inside the human’s body during the operation.
There are many advantages to choosing a laparoscopic surgery, including:
  • Smaller scars
  • Less pain
  • Less recovery time
  • Less risk of hemorrhaging
  • Shorter or no hospital stays

Robotic surgical procedures are computer-assisted surgeries where robots aid in procedures. These robots help physicians control movement and visibility. There are some risks to laparoscopic or robotic surgeries that you should discuss with your physician.

Minimally invasive surgery is quickly becoming the preferred method for treating many of the gynecologic problems women experience that require surgical intervention.

Laparoscopic or robotic surgeries can be used to treat:
“Minimally invasive surgery has many benefits compared to traditional procedures,” said Keshma Saujani, M.D., an OB/GYN with the Center for Women’s Health at The Longstreet Clinic. “We are able to use smaller incisions, and the patients experience less pain after surgery, have less scar tissue formation and usually can return to work sooner.”

The gynecologists at The Longstreet Clinic’s Center for Women’s Health are experienced in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic techniques. Surgeries are performed in the state-of-the-art North Patient Tower at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. When robotic procedures are available, our specially trained surgeons use the da Vinci Surgical System.
