Uterine ablation is a procedure designed to destroy the endometrium, which is the lining of the uterus. Destroying this will greatly reduce or eliminate menstrual flow. The procedure does not require incisions, but uses either extreme cold or heated fluids, depending on your physician’s recommended technique. The method varies based on size and condition of the uterus.
During this procedure, the cervix will be dilated to allow the passage of slender instruments. The procedure can be performed through a variety of methods, including
· Extreme cold
· Hot fluid
· Heated balloon
Uterine ablation is not recommended for women who still desire to conceive, have significant cramping during periods, have uterine cancer or have gone through menopause.
