Team USA kayaker overcomes injury to pursue Olympic goals

Stanton Collins wasn’t an average middle school athlete. From an early age he had Olympic dreams, and as a budding sprint kayak star with the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club (LCKC), there was nothing recreational in Collins’ training methods.

When he injured his knee in a snow skiing accident, he hoped the pain would be short-lived. But it lingered. After first seeking treatment with Longstreet Clinic physical therapy under the supervision of Dr. Holmes Marchman, tests indicated a more severe problem that would require surgical intervention.

Dr. Derek Moore, and orthopedic surgeon with Longstreet Clinic Orthopedics, helped guide Collins through the process of surgery and recovery, enabling him to continue training and competing at a high level.

In July 2019, Collins had several successful races to help pave the way to his ultimate goal of a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
