Influenza in Children

Influenza in Children

Influenza is a highly contagious virus of the respiratory system. This viral infection is most commonly known as “the flu” and can affect children of all ages. At The Longstreet Clinic, P.C., our pediatricians are experts when it comes to diagnosing and treating the flu, and we are committed to getting your children feeling better as quickly as possible.

As required by the Affordable Care Act, most commercial insurance plans now provide coverage for preventive care, including recommended immunizations, and are not subject to co-pays, co-insurance or deductibles. Schedule your child's flu shot today!

Flu symptoms in children can often be confused with the common cold, but will be much more intense. It can be difficult to tell between the two illnesses, but symptoms of the flu typically surface more suddenly than a cold.

Common Flu Symptoms include:

  • High fever, often involving chills and shakes
  • Body aches and pains
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Runny nose
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Vomiting

Flu Vaccine for Children

Seasonal influenza often begins late summer or early fall and lasts until spring. The Longstreet Clinic’s Center for Pediatrics offers flu vaccinations to protect your child against seasonal flu and H1N1 (Swine Flu). Talk with your child’s pediatrician about getting the flu vaccine so that you can be protected throughout the whole season. Vaccinations are the best prevention against the flu and other infections and our highly trained providers are always available to consult with you about which vaccine is best for your child.
